Your goal

Learn this net sport using feet and head to return the ball. Begin by lifting the ball for a teammate rather than attacking hard.

Key terms

Receive: handle the incoming ball. Set: lift it for an attack. Attack: send it over the net. Bounce: the ball rebounding from the ground.

Key rules · official rules and app defaults

The Korea Jokgu Association’s official rule text could not be accessed. Player numbers, allowed body parts, touch and bounce limits, set scores and deuce caps are therefore not presented as verified rules. Before playing, a coach must show current association and competition rules and explain them to participants. The app has no dedicated engine.

Equipment and safety

Use shoes with grip and a jokgu ball. Remove obstacles around the net and leave kicking space. Beginners should avoid high kicks and forceful headers.

Your first practice

Drop the ball gently and lift it with the inside of your foot, send it at an easy height to a partner, then rally over a low net. Any permitted bounce here is a practice agreement, not an official rule.

Your first match

Write down touch, bounce, scoring and court rules and confirm them together. Stop and ask a coach about unclear calls. Begin with safe, low balls.

Recording in the app and its limits

Jokgu is a team sport option, but match setup currently has no dedicated format. Use schedules, team communication and a separate scoresheet. A volleyball format may calculate results that do not match jokgu rules.

Common beginner mistakes

Calling local customs official rules: check current regulations. Kicking in front of a teammate while chasing the ball: use calls and spacing. Substituting a volleyball scoresheet: distinguish the supported formats.

Coach script · demonstration · check understanding

Explain: “This is safe lifting practice before competitive rules.” Demonstrate: a low inside-foot touch. Short practice: send a high ball to a partner. Check: “Can we assume today’s practice bounce allowance applies officially?” Feedback: “Good height. Leave more space from your teammate next time.”
