Bowling beginner guide · ClubLog
Roll the ball to knock down the pins. Start with balance and a safe finish rather than a high score.
App recording formats: None · team sport selection only
Your goal
Roll the ball to knock down the pins. Start with balance and a safe finish rather than a high score.
Key terms
Frame: a scoring unit. Strike: all pins down on the first delivery. Spare: remaining pins down on the second delivery. Gutter: the channel beside the lane.
Key rules · official rules and app defaults
Checked search text for USBC 2025–26 Rule 2: tenpin has ten frames; a strike adds the next two deliveries and a spare adds the next delivery. The final frame may include extra deliveries under specified conditions. This is a USBC tenpin reference, not a universal rule for Korean competitions or variants. The app does not calculate frames or bonuses automatically.
Equipment and safety
Use bowling shoes and a ball you can lift comfortably. Do not cross the slippery foul line or put hands inside the ball-return machine.
Your first practice
Practise balance without a ball, roll gently with a short approach and repeat toward the same target. Choose a weight that does not strain your wrist rather than throwing hard.
Your first match
Check lane order and the foul line, and yield to a bowler on the adjacent lane. Follow the scoreboard’s frame, remaining-pin and extra-delivery instructions.
Recording in the app and its limits
Bowling can be selected as a team sport, but match setup currently has no bowling format. Keep the bowling-centre scoresheet separately and share results through team communication. Entering pins as simple points does not calculate bonuses.
Common beginner mistakes
Forcing a heavy ball: choose a comfortable weight. Immediately finalising a strike as ten points: check following-delivery bonuses. Approaching with wet shoes: inspect the floor and soles.
Coach script · demonstration · check understanding
Explain: “Balance comes before power.” Demonstrate: a short approach and stable finish. Short practice: bowl toward the same target. Check: “Why is a strike score not final immediately?” Feedback: “Stable finish. Keep the ball weight comfortable.”
